EDUCATION AND EARLY DISCOVERIES
Kilian studied Mechanical Engineering for both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the Technical University of Munich. He joined TUfast , Formula Student team, initially working on the design and manufacturing of suspension components, primarily focusing on the steering system. Later, he became responsible for the conception, design, and management of the suspension and drivetrain systems, including managing the supply chain for these components.

Eventually, he took on the role of Vehicle Dynamics Control lead. When the team’s software developer left due to the extended project timeline during the pandemic, Kilian stepped in to handle the software development and found a passion for it in the process.

GAINING PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE
After completing his studies, Kilian joined Embotech as an intern, followed by a working student role. He contributed to a project with BMW, where he helped develop autonomous driving technology for cars within the factory. His main task involved working on localisation, ensuring cars could move autonomously through the production process.

Kilian’s Master’s thesis at BMW Motorsport focused on side-slip angle estimation for Le Mans race cars, blending his passion for both motorsport and software engineering.

JOINING DEEPDRIVE
Kilian later joined DeepDrive as a Software Engineer, drawn by the company’s innovative approach and strong team culture. His role involves managing CAN communication protocols and developing software for inverters. He also works on fleet monitoring, using data to help the team improve and refine their systems. Initially unsure about the company’s bold claims, Kilian quickly saw the effectiveness of their simple yet powerful solutions.

What attracted Kilian most to DeepDrive was the strong team spirit. Having worked with several colleagues in Formula Student, he knew he would be joining a talented and supportive team. The variety in his tasks keeps him engaged, and the collaborative nature of the work makes every day different. Kilian feels fortunate to be part of a group where the mix of people and projects creates a positive and energising work environment.

LOOKING AHEAD
Kilian is excited about the future of DeepDrive, he expects the team to grow and is confident that new team members will bring even more energy and talent. As DeepDrive expands its customer base, he looks forward to supporting them in applying the company’s technology to real-world automotive projects.

LIFE BEYOND WORK
When he’s not working, Kilian enjoys climbing and mountaineering, spending his free time outdoors as much as possible. He also has a musical side, playing the baritone in a village concert band whenever he visits his hometown. Another quiet passion of his is bonsai care, which allows him to step back from the fast-paced nature of his work and enjoy a slower, more reflective hobby.
