EDUCATION AND EARLY EXPERIENCE
Growing up in a small village – Mindelzell, René attended a secondary school that focused on practical skills rather than a purely academic curriculum. After completing his schooling, he chose to pursue an apprenticeship, which gave him valuable experience in mechanical and electrical engineering, as well as opportunities to work in specialised areas through internships.

After finishing his apprenticeship, René spent a year working at a manufacturing facility near his hometown, where he was involved in assembling containers for Caterpillar machinery and other mechanical and electrical tasks. These experiences helped him develop a strong foundation in engineering and confirmed his decision to further his studies. René went on to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at TUM, with a focus on physics, mathematics, and environmental engineering. His growing interest in sustainability and his enthusiasm for cars led him to explore the potential of electric vehicles, particularly electric motors.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND TRANSITION TO DEEPDRIVE
During his time at TUfast, a Formula Student team at TUM, René initially took on the role of a Mechanical Engineering Specialist, contributing to the development of electric race cars. His dedication and expertise later led to his appointment as Head of the Running Gear, where he oversaw crucial aspects of the vehicle’s performance.

While pursuing his Bachelor’s degree, René worked as a working student at Bertrandt Group, a service provider for AUDI AG and BMW AG. Over 2.5 years, he contributed to testing solutions for PSW Automotive Engineering, focusing on the performance evaluation of new AUDI AG models. This experience allowed him to gain practical insights into the automotive sector, particularly in testing and performance analysis. Looking for an opportunity to further develop his skills, René was drawn to DeepDrive for our innovative approach and dynamic environment.

WORKING AT DEEPDRIVE
René’s first day as a working student at DeepDrive was a lively one, as it coincided with a team event at the office, where we combined a productive workshop with some fun and bonding activities. This made for a warm and memorable introduction to the team, and René appreciated how welcoming and supportive his colleagues were from the very beginning. Now part of our Test Bench team, René works under the guidance of our co-founder, Maximilian Habersbrunner. René’s role centres on developing and optimising test benches for high-performance electric motors, including designing and refining systems, preparing detailed assembly instructions, and ensuring motors are efficiently mounted and dismounted during testing.

One of his key projects has been setting up the CSD high-speed test bench, and he is currently working on the high-torque test bench. René helps organise workflows and collaborates closely with his colleagues to find solutions for technical tasks. He appreciates the open and supportive culture at DeepDrive, which makes teamwork and sharing ideas easy.

LIFE OUTSIDE OF WORK
Outside of work, René enjoys staying active and spending time with friends. He is a passionate football fan and regularly attends Bayern Munich matches at the Allianz Arena. He also plays football with his local team in Mindelzell.

René’s active lifestyle extends to other sports, as he enjoys participating in running events and swimming. He also continues to explore engineering as a personal interest, particularly in areas related to electric vehicles, combining his hobbies with his professional expertise.
